In a slight departure on the bumpy road back to Gary Rossington's rightful place in Lynyrd Skynyrd, the guitarist and his wife, Dale Krantz-Rossington, formed this group after the dissolution of the Rossington Collins Band. As expected, the guitars remain the anchor of the group, but the raw power that drove most of the Skynyrd sound is nowhere to be found. From the 1986 Album Return to the Scene of the Crime. Rossington Band did one album before the 1987 Skynyrd reunion and one after. The difference between the two is quite distinctive despite it being almost the same players. This one, Returned. reminded me very much of the kind of material that Heart or Patty SmythScandal was doing during this period. Which is to say very, very commericial and frankly, kinda lame. But that's down to the writing for the most part, which is basically what distinguishes any good album from not so good. Good playing, good singing, good production are pretty much a given. The writing is what makes the difference every time, and the writing here is weak. The band released their debut album, Returned to the Scene of the Crime in 1986. Two years later, the band would shorten its name to simply Rossington and release a second album, Love Your Man. After a 28 year hiatus, a new Rossington album was released in November 2016 called Take It On Faith. Returned to the Scene of the Crime 1986 Love Your Man 1988 Take It On Faith 2016
