Discussions of the Phil Chillum - Fantazia '97 - The Return Of A Legend Album

Track 7, Legato "Small town boy", was a track owned by the Fantazia label F1 Records, as was track 10 Mind to Mind "Music is my life" obviously that meant they had to be included in this mix but hey they work well all things considered.
Hi, just so that you know, I am indeed DJ Phil Chillum, (btw the actual spelling in life is Phil Chilham) I just thought I'd let you know that this CD is in fact the Lynx sponsored promo CD for the gig we did at the G-Mex in '97. I was given the task of putting together a mix CD that didn't cost the earth to licence as it was not for sale but given as a promo. Making compilation mix albums is very expensive when it comes licencing the tracks from the labels that own them. We used to spend hundreds of thousands on the official Fantazia DJ mix albums we put out,(Club Classics, House Collection and British Anthems etc) what with all the TV ads, marketing and the quite expensive track licencing. Every track earn's money for it's respective label, that money has to come from Fantazia sales as part of the deal. This CD has one-off licencing of the tracks as there would be no sales profit as it was not sold but given away as a promo. The JCB track is in fact Mike Cosford & Luke Stidworthy's track which of course I got cheap as Mike worked for Fantazia too. All the tracks on this CD were up and coming and some went on to be big so I'm chuffed that I got them early and did on-off licencing deals for them. The CD had to include all sorts of styles etc but still had to flow, hence it starts off funky and builds to trancey.. There is actually a Phil Chillum live at the G-mex tape recorded on the night that has much bigger tracks on it, if people are interested enough I have a few left and will put some up on Discogs along with some of these Lynx CDs as people like the mixing which is something I always tried to get perfect. I came to Discogs as I'm doing a reunion gig at my local club where I used to be a resident DJ for years and I wanted some older tracks that I now can't find. One person has posted this CD on YouTube saying it's live at the G-mex but they're wrong, a friend will soon be posting the actual live mix from the night, maybe I can post a link here, it will be in the next few weeks.
The listing on the CD for Track 5 is not an error. The track in question is indeed 'Good Times' by JCB, also available here, albeit under a slightly different name track 'Good Times' by Mighty High is a completely different record, released 3 years after this album. Quite how someone has confused these two and taken it upon themselves to 'correct' the tracklisting I don't know.
Yes, the error relating to JCB has been removed now. Someone obviously saw the words 'Mighty High' and 'Good times' in the tracklisting and decided that the JCB record was this despite the fact you only have to listen to it to realise it isn't. The Revival 3000 tune is the best thing on the album, so good work licensing that. In fact all the tunes on here still stand up well today and the mix flows really well, especially for a mix where no two tunes are really the same in style, it sounds like quite a bit of thought went into the track selection and the order of play.
Well spotted mate that is JCB/Madagascar, they are the same people. While we're at it, track 4 was indeed listed the wrong way round, it's actually Revival 3000 "The mighty high" not The Mighty High "Revival 3000" I got a one-off licensing deal to include it but got it so early the track was just a test acetate with no quote marks to show which was the artist and which was the track.
Amazing mix, its getting rare now so im glad I still own a copy. The mix by Phil Chillum is quite unique, the cd caries the same characteristics as any Fantazia album from the 90s dance scene. Highly recommended if you can find one.
Thanks for the lovely comment on my mixing, much appreciated. Look out for the tape. :o)
