Pastoral Composure. Frére Jacques. Matthew Shipp. Painter's Spring. William Parker. Accelerando Bonus Track Version. Vijay Iyer Trio. We Insist Max Roach's Freedom Now Suite. Max Roach. Nu Bop. Matthew Shipp - piano Roy Campbell - trumpet , pocket trumpet , flugelhorn William Parker bass Gerald Cleaver drums Recorded January 2000 Lp - is an album by American jazz pianist Matthew Shipp which was recorded in 1997 and released on the Swiss hatOLOGY label. The album features the Horn Quartet, a chamber-jazz group without drums composed of Shipp and three members of the band Other Dimensions In Music: trumpeter Roy Campbell, multi-instrumentalist Daniel Carter and bassist William Parker. Two weeks before, Shipp played as guest on Other Dimensions In Music live album Time Is of the Essence Is Beyond Time. Matthew Shipp went into retirement earlier this year at age 38, after seven years of recording some of the most adventurous free jazz piano in history. Recently Thirsty Ear convinced him to come out of his self-imposed retirement and record a quartet album entitled Pastoral Composure. His new quartet features trumpeter Roy Campbell, bassist William Parker, and drummer Gerald Cleaver. A more sympathetic group has rarely existed in free jazz. Campbell's trumpet lines range from outright clear melodicism to wild pithy freedom he's deftly supported by Parker's bass anchor and Cleav.
