When I Was in Heaven. 8 Songs, 1 Hour, 6 Minutes. Released March 17, 1998. 1998 Ride Symbol. See Friends Who Have Listened to This. Get Started. Internet Service Terms. Cookie Warning. His eight originals, recorded with his excellent quartet People Like Us, seem familiar yet remain unique, with an attractive quirkiness that demands repeated hearings. The pianist himself has chops to spare, but isn't hesitant to duck out completely or provide bare-bones accompaniment to the soloists. Piano, Composed By Joel Forrester. Recorded at Five Towns College Performing Arts Center, Dix Hills, New York June 10, 1997. Not really a criticism on the record, it's decent for filler jazz, more of an observation that this cd and Believe It' have nothing to do with People Like Us, just one of the many cases where some artist threw it on an album to wind up thrown in the mix. It's not only anybody involved in the group, it's a different genre of music on an obscure label. The eight numbers are composed by Forrester, and the quartets playing is intelligent and engaging. On the longest number, The Road Ahead, Claire Dalys rough tone on baritone and Forresters bright and playful approach are characteristic of the stimulating musical conversations one hears on this excellent outing. Listen Now . Fix in Music Library Close. Previous 12 3 4 Next. Joel Forrester has had a fascinating career. He studied piano with Thelonious Monk, scored early Andy Warhol films, wrote the theme for the popular NPR show Fresh Air, accompanied silent films at the Louvre, and spent years as a principal member of the fondly remembered Microscopic Septet. He's also been the driving force between one of the liveliest bands in town, People Like Us, a quartet devoted to Forrester's quirkily intelligent compositions. Ever Wonder Why collects eleven new and not-so-new Forrester tunes, a typically eclectic assortment that highlights his winning mix of eru. People Like Us may refer to: People Like Us 2012 film, a drama film starring Chris Pine, Elizabeth Banks, Olivia Wilde, Jon Favreau and Michelle Pfeiffer. People Like Us soundtrack. People Like Us 1980 film, an Australian film. People Like Us mockumentary, a British radio and TV comedy series that ran 19952001. People Like Us TV series, 2013 British reality series.
