Showroom of Compassion is the sixth full-length studio album from the band Cake, released on January 11, 2011. Produced by the band, it was the band's first studio album to be independently released. The musical style of Showroom of Compassion is grounded in the band's unique style of alternative rock, combining droll, often esoteric lyrics rife with word play and syncopation, catchy distorted guitar riffs, complex bass patterns, Moog and prominent use of trumpet. Cake's former lead guitarist, Greg. Cake is back at it again with a new album of songs that tell odd tales and hit hard grooves. Cake could have worked harder to refrain from traveling over their old footprints, but they can still write a great hook and catchy By Cake. Comfort Eagle. Fashion Nugget Deluxe Version. Fashion Nugget. Cake: B-Sides and Rarities. Pressure Chief. Motorcade of Generosity. 60 million songs. Three months on us. Showroom of Compassion. Released 2011. Showroom of Compassion Tracklist. Federal Funding - Showroom Of Compassion review: Cake release a different yet same-y record that is plagued by a few problems but in the end, it ends up like cake, delectable and filling. Showroom of Compassion is a fairly varied record. A variety of sounds all encased under the Cake banner are displayed throughout. Soaring, melancholic ballads collide with poppier numbers and grandiose Alt-Rock. The opening track, Federal Funding , is a depressive number with a slinky bass line. It, along with the next 3 tracks, are dark, slightly depressing songs with a variety of elements. Cake : Showroom of Compassion,альбом, рецезия, трек-лист, mp3, тексты песен. CAKE first album of new material since 2004's gold-selling Pressure Chief. The band will release Showroom Of Compassion, their 6th studio album, January 11th 2011. The first single, Sick Of You, is off to a tremendous start at Alternative, Rock and Triple A radio formats. CAKE will support the release of the new album with confirmed appearances on Conan O'Brien Dec. 1 and Jimmy Fallon Jan. A January-June 2011 US tour will go on-sale during November 2010. Showroom of Compassion finds the group at its most musically accomplished and quirkily ambitious, covering more ground on one album than most band do in an entire career. Billboard magazine. Showroom Of Compassion is CAKEs most recent album, and its also one of their weakest. It gets the same score as Pressure Chief, though I am not sure which one I would favor in a comparison. Pressure Chief is more consistent in its song scores, but I have more favorites in this album. Either way, I wish that CAKE would produce more songs that resemble their older days, or at least in the Comfort Eagle era. That being said, I did really enjoy Mustache Man and Sick Of You, though there were a couple bland songs odd for CAKE, as their music is usually unique. Showroom Of Compassion. Released: Jan 2011. Label: Upbeat Records. At first listen, Cake don't sound quite as overly snarky this time around maybe six years between albums not to mention turning 40, has given singersongwriter John McCrea some perspective. But that may all just be an illusion: Showroom of Compassion is Cake's first album to employ acoustic piano and hints of reverb, revealing the band's gift for melody more than ever before. Once the deadpan vocals, mariachi-inspired horn and deep bass kicks in, though, Cake's signature wit

Discussions of the Cake - Showroom Of Compassion Album

Cool idea, not great execution. As mentioned previously, mispress on the last side so you don't get "Huge Misunderstanding" and several of the individual singles are missing inner sleeves. The ones missing sleeves have taken a bit of beating in my box, and have some surface noise issues (understandable since they have been rubbing on the cardboard jackets). The sound is great quality though, and the different colored discs are neato.
Not only is federal funding where huge misunderstanding is supposed to be but the record that federal funding belongs on has the label partially on the grooves on mine.
I emailed the record label about my quality control issues. They were great about it & are sending a new box set. Unfortunately the wrong track on the last 7" is something that they cannot rectify.
Also three of the records have an inner sleeve & the other three don't.
Reports indicate that several What's Now Is Now records (unknown exactly how many) have a misspressing where the B-Side is actually a repeat of The Federal Funding March where Huge Misunderstanding is supposed to appear. See video and comments here:
