Notes

Very similar to Bill Evans Trio Featuring Scott La Faro - Sunday At The Village Vanguard and Bill Evans Trio Featuring Scott La Faro - Sunday At The Village Vanguard, with only slight variations to the jacket layout, as if it were a hybrid of the first mono and stereo pressings. Front cover has "376 Riverside" on the bottom right corner in a tan/brown font, beneath the portrait as opposed to above it. Back cover has "Riverside High Fidelity RLP 376" in top right corner, with no stereo connotation. Otherwise, the black & silver "stereophonic microgroove" labels are the same as the first stereo pressing.

The last set closed with Jade Visions, another Scott LaFaro composition. It is one of the most interesting tunes played on that long day, with a Zen-like mantra phrase in 94. Bill was like a ghost. When selecting which tunes to put on the first LP featuring recordings from that day, the now classic Sunday At The Village Vanguard, Evans picked the two tunes LaFaro wrote, Glorias Step and Jade Visions, and did not pick any of his originals. A second LP with more material from that day, Waltz For Debby, was released the following year. Evans' focus in this trio was jazz standards and original compositions, with an emphasis on interplay among the band members that often bordered on collective improvisation and blurred the line between soloist and accompanist. This trio recorded four albums: Portrait in Jazz 1959, Explorations, Sunday at the Village Vanguard, and Waltz for Debby all recorded in 1961. The latter two albums are l read more.
